Students complete an engineering project in conjunction with the Engineering Education Scheme. Several months are spent developing a project from conception to completion and working with a team of professionals. A residential is held at Birmingham University. The scheme provides a great opportunity to gain an insight into the engineering world and is valuable for those continuing on to University. Examples include working with Severn Trent Water to create an inspection probe for water tanks which was submitted for a national competition.
The Extended Project is a qualification which allows students to pursue research based projects in a range of subject areas. The qualification is equivalent in UCAS points to an AS Level, and is graded A* to E. Project work can be assessed in various formats including written portfolio, presentation, performance or use of artefacts. The Extended Project is well regarded by leading universities, which value the emphasis it places on the development of skills in analytic thought, independent learning, extended writing and presentation.
