Extra Curricular Opportunities

As a large and well equipped school, we pride ourselves on being able to offer a comprehensive range of opportunities beyond those of the main curriculum, to enhance and extend the learning opportunities of our students.

Performing Arts:

Here at Stratford we offer a wide range of opportunities for those with an interest in the arts: Everything from dance shows to musicals, concerts to theatre visits. Whether you have an interest in Music, Dance, Drama or even the technical aspects of theatre we have something for you!

In the past we have put on musicals such as 'We Will Rock You' and 'Grease', alongside an annual Dance show performed at the RSC's 'The Other Place'. Other extra curricular opportunities include concerts throughout the year.  You can see photos from some of our shows in the gallery.

Students at SuAS have access to a huge number extracurricular sports every day after school, sports available include: Trampolining, Netball, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Rugby, Athletics, Fitness, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Table tennis, Cricket and Rounders.

We successfully compete against other schools in competitive fixtures and tournaments both locally and regionally. We also like to encourage those students who are trying something new and taking part in sport for enrichment. You can follow our sporting success on the PE twitter account @StratSchPE.

Trips and visits:

One of the great benefits of being such a large school is the wide variety of trips and visits we are able to offer throughout a students time here. From the Year 7 Bushcraft adventure to doing your Year 11 work experience in Paris and history trips to visit the WW1 battlefields. In the past we have offered trips to New York and Washington, We have performed on stage at Disneyland Paris and skied in The Alps.

We also run trips closer to home, from tours of the Warner Brothers Harry Potter studios to visiting Kenilworth castle.

Duke of Edinburgh Award:

At Stratford upon Avon School, we offer all levels of award for the Duke of Edinburgh. In Year 9 students can access the Bronze Award both as part of the options process via the Star Qualification, and as an extra-curricular add-on. At bronze level, students will complete the equivalent of a 12-month award which will include a navigational day walk and one 2 day/1-night expedition in the Cotswolds.

As students move into year 10 and having successfully completed their Bronze Award, they can then move onto completing the Silver Award which will be completed over an 18-month period and will involve two 3-day expeditions to Long Mynd and the Derbyshire Dales.

Finally, the full Gold Award is offered as part of the enrichment programme in the Sixth Form and can be accessed by both by direct entrants and those who've already completed the Silver Level Award. Gold takes two years to complete and includes two expeditions to the Black Mountain region in South Wales and the assessed expedition to Snowdonia.
