Careers Guidance

Careers Education is an integral part of provision for all students. The school's Careers Education and Advice Department provides guidance and support to students throughout their time at Stratford School and even supports students after they have left us. Careers advice is integrated through the curriculum to enable our students to make 'real world' connections between their studies and their future.

Programmes to prepare young people for adult life are available throughout the school years.  These include:

  • Work Experience
  • Enterprise Activities
  • Business Simulation Exercises
  • Advice Sessions
  • Vocational Opportunities

Statutory Guidance and the Gatsby Benchmarks

In January 2018, the Department for Education published the Government's careers strategy which sets out a long-term plan to build a world-class careers system that will help young people in their journey to a career path that is right for them.

The eight Gatsby benchmarks for good careers guidance include:

  1. A stable careers programme
  2. Learning from careers and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experiences of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal guidance

Evaluating the impact of the careers programme

Stratford upon Avon School is currently working towards implementing the use of a regular questionnaire/survey with parents and staff to assess the impact of the careers programme upon students.  Parents will be sent an annual survey for feedback in respect of the careers provision provided for their child.  We currently survey all students for feedback at the end of all careers events held in school as well as external careers events. Furthermore, the impact of the careers programme is measured for example by the destinations of our school leavers at post- 16 and post-18, including university and apprenticeship offers.
