Curriculum Summary

    Years 7 to 8 students at Stratford upon Avon School:

    • have access to a curriculum which is broad and balanced, enabling them to receive a good grounding in a range of different subjects
    • have access to teaching within a group which provides them with both challenge and support
    • have access to a tutor group where they are able to work alongside people from other years to explore issues relating to the world around them and engage in competition for the School
    • are taught a range of humanities based subjects including a foreign language
    • participate in a range of arts based subjects where they can express themselves through different mediums
    • participate in science and  technology learning to enhance their understanding of the way in which technology and  science work
    • participate in sports based activities and learn how to lead a healthy lifestyle in my diet and social habits
    • learn how to use ICT and computing based skills to enhance their ability to become an independent learner 
    • receive independent careers information and guidance to enable them to think about how to make appropriate decisions about their future.

    In Year 7-8 students are placed in teaching groups which are determined by their ability in Maths, English Science and MFL.  This is intended to ensure the pace and challenge of the lessons is appropriate to them. These classes are reviewed regularly to ensure that students are receiving the appropriate support and challenge they need. Other subjects are set by subject areas which can be mixed or gender based (eg. for PE). Full details can be found on the year group curriculum pages, accessible from the menu on the left.

    In Years 7, 8 students will study the following subjects:

    In Years 9, 10 and 11 students at Stratford upon Avon School

    • have access to a curriculum which is broad and balanced, enabling them to receive a good grounding in a range of different subjects 
    • have access to teaching within a group which provides them with both challenge and support 
    • have access to a tutor group where they are able to work alongside people from other years to explore issues relating to the world around them and engage in competition for the School 
    • have the ability to shape their own learning by selecting from a number of different subjects within the options system to create their own curriculum for 16 hours a fortnight studying four different subjects.  They will study for at least two nationally recognised qualifications in science 
    • study one nationally recognised qualification in mathematics 
    • study for at least two nationally recognised qualifications in English 
    • leave Year 11 with at least 8 nationally recognised qualifications 
    • receive independent careers information and guidance to enable them to think about how to make appropriate decisions about their future.

    Curriculum information for Sixth Form Year 12-13

    The Sixth Form is not only about preparing students for examination but building students’ confidence and capability for the next stages. This includes enhancement study – including access to Young Enterprise, Duke of Edinburgh and voluntary work and supervised study during non-curriculum time. We also offer bespoke independent advice and guidance for support with the next decisions about Higher Education, University choices, employment and the growing opportunities of apprenticeships.
