Curriculum Committee Governor
Term of office: Jan 2015
Profile: After leaving university I worked at Stratford District Council as a Housing Officer and whilst there decided to complete my PGCE at Birmingham University, in order to change career and become a teacher. I worked at Arden School in Dorridge for 7 years before joining Stratford Girls’ Grammar in 2000. By then I was married with two young boys and part-time teaching turned into full -time and eventually pastoral responsibility as Head of Key Stage Four and Senco. In 2007 we decided to emigrate to Australia and waved goodbye to family and friends for a new life on the other side of the world; unfortunately it was not what we had hoped for and we returned to pick up our lives once again in Stratford. One year later I became Head of Geography back at my old school, as well as a Staff governor on the Curriculum Committee. My youngest son is currently in Sixth Form and the other left school in 2012 and is now studying at university.
I have many transferable skills from my time in education and as a parent; 25 years of dealing with the day to day business of providing the best pastoral and educational resources for students within a changing political, economic and social landscape. This knowledge and skill will be of benefit in my new role as a governor on the Curriculum Committee at Stratford upon Avon School. My main reason for taking on this demanding role is to ensure that the majority of students attain their very best academically, whilst becoming happy and positive members of society.
